Big Brothers Big Sisters matches children ages six through 18 with mentors in professional supported one-to-one relationships; Keuka College supports a campus-based mentoring program that matches college students with local youth.
Bigs and Littles are encouraged to spend at least one hour per week together. The schedule can be flexible to meet the needs of mentors and young people in different kinds of situations. Some Bigs meet their Littles on the weekend or in the evening while others get together with their Littles after school.
The Community Service Resource Center provides biweekly programming for Keuka matches. Past activities have included holiday parties, game/movie nights, ice cream socials, craft making, and field trips. Matches are celebrated each spring at a barbecue hosted by the College’s president.
Keuka’s matches are supported by Gail Colaneri, match coordinator, and two student coordinators. In 2007, Colaneri and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Rochester received the New York State Cooperative and Experiential Education Association’s (NYSCEEA) 2007 Employer of the Year Award.
Applications are accepted throughout the year. Please stop by the Community Service Resource Center in the Center for Experiential Learning to pick up an application or e-mail us for more information.
