I was able to observe paramedics during a call, watched what they did to help the patient, listened to what they asked the patient, and did what they asked me so I could help them with the patient.

Best Aspect

I learned from the ALS techs how I can be of better assistance to them and observed other basics skills on call.

Duties Performed

I spent one week in the outpatient children's clinic observing occupational therapists work with children with diagnosis such as autism, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and developmentally delayed. The other week I shadowed an occupational therapist in the rehabilitation hospital in-patient unit of Casa Colina. The diagnosis in this unit ranged from stoke, crush injuries, heart attacks, viral and autoimmune diseases.

Best Aspect

This Field Period was unique because of the diversity of treatment setting and diagnosis that were present at this site. Casa Colina is one of the leading therapy settings in the country and it was fascinating to learn from their expertise.

Some of the skills I gained during this Field Period included: creating spreadsheets, creating/administering surveys for various departments and groups, scanning, data retrieval, and working with members of other departments to reach a common goal.

Best Aspect

It was a great opportunity for me to conduct a Field Period with TeamWorks! I became more familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel, creating surveys on Class Climate, scanning/data retrieval, and so much more. Being computer savvy is just one of the many things that employers require of their employees, and having this opportunity puts me that much ahead of the competition.
